Daniel Sanders may be a rookie in the Dakar, but he's no greenhorn. The factory KTM biker, an enduro specialist who won the 2019 Australian Off-Road Championship, got off to a flying start in the 2021 Dakar with third place in the prologue, right behind Ricky Brabec and Joan Barreda.
Defending champion Ricky Brabec has picked up where he left off and made his infernal pace count again to edge out Joan Barreda and Daniel Sanders for the win. 13 seconds separate the leading trio.
The 2020 Dakar champion was, of course, the last biker to start the special. The American is still a big favourite, but for now it is Joan Barreda who is leading the prologue.
Joan Barreda holds the provisional lead in the motorbike special with seven seconds to spare over rookie Daniel Sanders. The differences between the favourites remain negligible as Sam Sunderland gets ready to start.
