After withdrawing from the competition on the fourth stage and continuing the rally via the Dakar Experience formula, Daniel Albero Puig has just suffered another setback. The Spaniard has broken the engine on his Husqvarna after 131 km of the special and has requested an airlift from the race. The man who was seeking to be the first diabetic to finish the Dakar withdraws for the second year running.
For the second successive year, Lorenzo Santolino will not reach the end of the Dakar. The official Sherco rider, who was 16th in the general standings this morning, has been taken under the wing of the medical team after 350 km, suffering from pain during movements when handling the bike.
Martin Michek and Jaume Betriu have both finished the stage, 13th and 14th position. Both men have been battling since the start for the place of best rookie on the rally and are only separated by 1’24 in the general standings, to the advantage of the Czech rider!
Pablo Quintanilla has enjoyed his best stage since the start of the rally to win the special with a lead of almost two minutes over Toby Price. As a result, he continues to put pressure no general standings leader Ricky Brabec, who nevertheless has managed to limit the damage by finishing less than 4 minutes behind the day’s winner.
