'Chaleco' López will keep great memories of stage 7. The Chilean driver claimed his third S×S stage win by more than 22 minutes over Reinaldo Varela —good enough to come within striking distance of the Brazilian, who now leads the race after Gerard Farrés went through CP2 with a deficit of almost 2 hours!
Gerard de Rooy has schooled his rivals in stage 7. The Iveco driver racked up his second stage in as many days with half an hour to spare over Siarhei Viazovich and Eduard Nikolayev. Combined with the bad luck of Dmitry Sotnikov, who has yet to finish the stage, his performance catapulted him to second place overall.
'Chaleco' has been surfing the dunes and is now 19 minutes ahead of Reinaldo Varela and Rodrigo Moreno at WP5. Overall leader Gerard Farrés has lost a lot of time and has yet to go through the waypoint!
Sergey Karyakin is fighting to finish the special after doing a barrel roll earlier today. The Russian, who started the stage in second place overall, is back on his way and went through CP1 with a deficit of 3 h 16.
