Adrien Van Beveren has finally managed to finish the special. The Yamaha rider finished 70th, a full 3 h 30 behind the winner. Plummeting to 14th place overall will be the least of his concerns, however, with the threat of disqualification hanging over him for completing the special on a pick-up truck.
Eduard Nikolayev got back to his winning ways today, taking the overall lead back from his Kamaz teammate Dmitry Sotnikov in the process. Sotnikov finished 27 minutes behind the new leader.
Reinaldo Varela has struggled throughout the 2019 Dakar, but the Can-Am driver proved he remains as fast as ever with a second stage win. The defending champion beat Gerard Farrés by three minutes, while overall leader 'Chaleco' López raced conservatively to finish 11’26″ back.
Sébastien Loeb has finally completed stage 9. The Frenchman conceded 1 h 15 to today's victor, Nasser Al-Attiyah, but kept his third place overall two hours behind the leader of the Toyota team.
