Already leader of the general standings, the Peruvian rookie Juan Carlos Uribe is enjoying the dunes and has scored his first victory on the Dakar on completion of a stage that he has totally controlled. Patrick Garrouste finished 17 minutes behind him.
Federico Villagra has picked up his very first stage win on the Dakar in fine style. The Argentinean Iveco driver came from behind to beat Eduard Nikolaev in the last few kilometres by just 35 seconds. However, the Russian still leads the general standings.
Eduard Nikolaev is setting a superb pace on this third stage and has reached CP1 with a fine lead of seven minutes over Federico Villagra. For the moment, Ayrat Mardeev has put a second Kamaz truck in the top 3.
Nani Roma had a spectacular accident less than one kilometre from the finishing line. It took him a certain amount of time to get over the shock, but the Spaniard was able to resume racing and cross the line 26 minutes behind the stage winner, before being examined by the race medical team.
