Federico Villagra has won his second victory in La Paz on completion of a faultless stage. The Argentinean has crossed the finishing line with a lead of more than two minutes over his rivals.
Martin Macík and Federico Villagra are neck and neck for the stage victory. The Czech and the Argentinean are only separated by one small second after 425 kilometres of racing, while Martin Kolomy lies merely 43 seconds behind the leaders.
Despite the change of terrain, the Toyotas were again dominated by the Peugeots of Carlos Sainz and Stéphane Peterhansel. Nasser Al-Attiyah finished third, 5’05’’ behind the Spaniard, and Giniel de Villiers crossed the line 5’31’’ after Sainz. In the Mini clan, Mikko Hirvonen could do no better than sixth, 8’56’’ behind the winner.
He has had to wait for the quick tracks of Bolivia, but Carlos Sainz has his first stage win of the year. The Peugeot driver opened up the gap throughout the day to beat Stéphane Peterhansel by four minutes and Nasser Al-Attiyah by five minutes.
