The organisers have made their medical services available to strengthen the rescue teams deployed in the area. In light of this situation, and with the liaison blocked, the entire Dakar caravan has been rerouted to an alternative itinerary via San Antonio de los Cobres, extending the liaison by approximately 200 km. This will prevent competitors from reaching the Salta bivouac in time for the start of stage 9.Furthermore, large vehicles cannot take this route. As a result, today will be used to regroup the rally in Chilecito with a view to continuing the race on Thursday, 12 January, with stage 10 from Chilecito to San Juan.
The organization offered its sanitary facilities to reinforce the local safety support on site. As the road is cut off, most of the vehicles, competitors, assistance and logistics from the Dakar caravan were diverted on an alternative route through San Antonio de los Cobres, extending the distance of the liaison by about 200 km. They will not be able to reach the Salta bivouac in time to start the race.A number of larger vehicles will not be able to use that road either. The day will be devoted to regroup the race caravan in Chilecito to continue the event by giving the start on the 12th of January of stage 10, between CHILECITO and SAN JUAN.
There will be almost 1,000 kilometres to be covered during the day, almost half of which will form the special… which will be virtually entirely made up of off-piste riding and driving. It will be the sternest test for the navigators who will play a decisive role. The results of the day could signal a turning point in the conquest for the titles in each of the categories.
