21:02 Cars: Finish: Peter's eleventh!
Stéphane Peterhansel took his eleventh Dakar to go with those he'd already won in the motorcycle and car categories at the end of an edition which he led almost from the beginning to the end. Another former Dakar winner, Giniel de Villiers, drove his Toyota to second place, ahead of Leonid Novitskiy and Nani Roma's Minis. Orlando Terranova made it four out of five in the Top 5 for the X-Raid team, while Carlos Sousa finished sixth at the wheel of his Haval Great Wall.
20:55 Cars: Finish 2: Roma fastest!
Nani Roma has pipped Orlando Terranova by 13' at the end of the special. The Spaniard crossed the finish line just a few seconds after Stéphane Peterhansel, who was 3'43' slower than his teammate.
20:39 Cars: Finish 2: Changes in the Top 5
Lucio Álvarez (+18') and Giniel de Villiers (+1'14') have driven their Toyotas to second and third place, respectively, behind Orlando Terranova. Leonid Novitskiy and his Mini are currently sitting in sixth place, 2'21' back.
20:34 Cars: Finish 2: First time splits
Orlando Terranova has clocked the best time so far (1 h 44'23'). Guerlain Chicherit (+1'52') and Robby Gordon (+2'04') are the only other drivers who've already finished.
17:40 Cars: Alcaraz in trouble
The T3 classification leader William Alcaraz, driving solo in his Polaris, stopped next to the road at km 39 for 20 minutes. It looks like he's up and running again. Alcaraz has over eight hours on another Frenchman, Nicolas Duclos.
17:34 Cars: Finish 1: Roma grabs the special!
Nani Roma takes it by 1'24' over Orlando Terranova and 1'31' over Lucio Álvarez. Stéphane Peterhansel drove cautiously and finished 3'55' behind his teammate. Now, the drivers will have to tackle a 220 km link section before the final 15 timed kilometres.
17:27 Cars: Finish 1: Terranova ahead of Álvarez
The results will probably change, but right now Orlando Terranova leads the car special with 7' on Lucio Álvarez, 33' on Giniel de Villiers, 51' on fourth-placed Guerlain Chicherit, 1'24' on Robby Gordon and 1'41' on Leonid Novitskiy. Carlos Sousa crossed the finish line 2'59' down after having to stop during the special.
17:06 Cars: Km 86: Roma firing on all cylinders!
Nani Roma's still in the lead in the car race. He's expanded his lead to 1'46' over Orlando Terranova and Giniel de Villiers.
17:02 Cars: Coffaro hit by a mechanical
Venezuela's Nunzio Coffaro has stopped 42 km into today's special with a broken suspension component. He's trying to repair it while he waits for his assistance truck.
16:59 Cars: Terranova leads De Villiers after 86 km
Argentinean Orlando Terranova has a slim lead of 2' over South African Giniel de Villiers and his Toyota. Guerlain Chicherit (+31') holds the provisional third place ahead of Leonid Novitskiy (+1'03') and Robby Gordon (+1'07'). Spaniard Nani Roma is still missing from this classification.
16:49 Cars: Sousa at a standstill
The Great Wall driver Carlos Sousa has come to a stop in a hilly zone shortly before km 74 of today's special, in what looks like a run-off area. Is it a flat? Or a mechanical, perhaps?
16:46 Cars: Terranova fastest at km 86
The BMW driver has moved into the lead at the second checkpoint of today's special, ahead of Guerlain Chicherit and Robby Gordon. We're now waiting for Nani Roma in order to get a clearer picture of the gaps.
16:29 Cars: Peterhansel tenth after 41 km
With a comfortable lead in the overall, Peterhansel does just enough to post the provisional tenth best time at km 41, 1'42' behind teammate Nani Roma.
16:25 Cars: Roma faster than Gordon at km 41!
The Spaniard has just taken the lead from American Robby Gordon, who held the previous best time, by 34'.
16:13 Cars: Carlos Sousa in third place
Portugal's Carlos Sousa and his Great Wall have just clocked the provisional third best time, 12' down on Robby Gordon's reference and tied on time with Guerlain Chicherit.
16:12 Cars: Gordon ahead of De Villiers after 41 km
American Robby Gordon is in command just before the halfway point, with a time of 30'30' for the first 41 kilometres. He leads Giniel de Villiers by 8', Guerlain Chicherit by 12', Lucio Álvarez and Orlando Terranova by 25', and Leonid Novitskiy by 44'.
15:30 Cars: The cars start the special
Robby Gordon is opening the penultimate stage ahead of Guerlain Chicherit. Both of them are already in the first sector.
13:09 : The motorcycles start the special at 9:15 local time
The first motorcycle started at 9:15 am after a short, 15-minute delay to the previous time was necessary to ensure that the morning fog had lifted enough to allow for the deployment of safety operations for today's special.
12:57 : Tentative motorcycle start at 9 am local time
After yet another delay due to low altitude clouds over the course, the motorcycle race will start within minutes if the race direction gives its 'all clear'.
12:53 Cars: The cars and trucks hit the road
The 93 cars still in the race have been in transit towards the start of today's special for half an hour. As for the 61 trucks left, they've been moving towards the competitor gathering point for several minutes now.
11:44 : Start delayed
The cloud cover is very low (roughly 200 m) over the start of today's special, which means helicopters can't take off at the moment. Therefore, the start of the motorcycle race has been delayed by an hour for safety reasons. It's also raining on the course of today's stage.
19:16 Bikes: Finish 2: Top 5
Francisco López was the fastest rider on today's course, beating Ruben Faria by 29', Joan Barreda by 37', Hélder Rodrigues by 53' and Juan Pedrero García by 1'25'. Nevertheless, the penalties handed down to Chaleco and Juan Pedrero García for changing their engines yesterday offer the stage win on a platter to Ruben Faria.
18:50 Bikes: Finish: High five for Despres!
The 2013 edition came to an end with Cyril Despres taking his fifth Dakar win. Ruben Faria finished second at 10'43', followed by Francisco López at 18'48' and Ivan Jakes at 23'54'. Juan Pedrero García was fifth at 55'29', ahead of sixth-placed Olivier Pain.
18:37 Bikes: Chaleco's penalty comes into effect
There's a reason why Chaleco is so far behind the leaders in today's Scratch classification: the 15-minute penalty set out in the rules for changing his engine has come into effect.
18:35 Bikes: Finish 2: One for Barreda?
Joan Barreda has posted the best time so far for the last section, whose route was changed earlier. He clocked a cumulative time of 1 h 43'14' for today's two sections. 16' behind lies Hélder Rodrigues, with Paulo Gonçalves at 2'24' and Cyril Despres at 3'50'. Francisco López got lost in this sector and conceded 14'23'.
18:15 Bikes: Start 2: Chaleco at sixes and sevens
Francisco López's got lost in the second part of the special, 11 km long. This short section could very well see the Chilean rider lose third place to Ivan Jakes.
15:19 Bikes: Finish 1: Faria and Barreda on the virtual podium
At the moment, Ruben Faria holds the second best time at the finish of the first part of the special, 32' behind Francisco López. Joan Barreda is third, 8' behind the Portuguese rider. Frans Verhoeven, who was in the Top 3 at the previous checkpoints, has yet to finish.
15:10 Bikes: Chaleco takes the special, but
Francisco López had to change his engine yesterday evening, resulting in a 15-minute penalty effective as of the end of today's stage. This means the Chilean is now fighting for the bottom step of the podium of the 2013 Dakar. His main rival is Ivan Jakes.
14:59 Bikes: Finish 1: Chaleco wins
Francisco López takes the penultimate special of the 2013 Dakar ahead of Spain's Joan Barreda, who lies in a provisional second place, 1'05' back. Cyril Despres is third at 2'20', followed by Paulo Gonçalves at 3'05'. But we're waiting for some of the protagonists of today's special to finish in order to confirm this classification.
14:43 Bikes: Km 86: Waiting for Verhoeven and Faria
No significant changes from the situation at the first checkpoint: Joan Barreda (+41') is second, followed by Juan Pedrero García (+46') and Hélder Rodrigues (+1'19'). But we're waiting for Frans Verhoeven and Ruben Faria, who posted the second and third best times earlier.
14:38 Bikes: Chaleco still in charge after 86 km
The Chilean rider has probably made a point of winning the penultimate stage in front of his home crowds and is leading Cyril Despres by 1'54'. These two men are opening the road, so we're still waiting for the other riders.
14:20 Bikes: Verhoeven even closer to Chaleco
It's now Frans Verhoeven's turn to take second place, 13 seconds down on the reference.
14:17 Bikes: Faria second after 41 km
Cyril Despres' lieutenant has clocked the second best time for the first part of the special, a mere 25' behind leader Chaleco.
14:04 Bikes: Km 41: Barreda and García hot on López's heels
Chaleco still holds the best time for the first 41 km, followed by Joan Barreda (+31') in second place and Juan Pedrero García (+33') in third. Hélder Rodrigues (+53') has just toppled Cyril Despres from fourth place.
13:57 Bikes: Chaleco with a cutlass between his teeth
Francisco López is leading today's special ahead of Cyril Despres, with a time of 29'55' for the first 41 km. Just before the halfway point, the Frenchman is 1'04' down, but his overall lead still looks safe.
13:22 Bikes: López dashes to Santiago
Francisco López started the special at 9:15 am. 346 kilometres await, with a first timed section of 111 km. We'll keep an eye on the gaps between him and his main rival Cyril Despres.
11:44 : Start delayed
The cloud cover is very low (roughly 200 m) over the start of today's special, which means helicopters can't take off at the moment. Therefore, the start of the motorcycle race has been delayed by an hour for safety reasons. It's also raining on the course of today's stage.
11:23 Bikes: Francisco López leads the charge
Chile's Francisco López is opening the road this morning as the first of the 125 motorcycle riders cleared to start today's 122 km link section. Cyril Despres set off right after him at 5:47 am local time. The Frenchman is in the overall lead, with 8'15' on Chaleco.
19:33 Quads: Finish: Double delight for Marcos
Marcos Patronelli took a second Dakar win to go with the one he seized in 2010 and his second places in 2009 and 2012, beating Ignacio Casale by 1 h 50'35' and third-placed Poland's Rafal Sonik by 3 h 16'49'. Argentinean Lucas Bonetto finished just outside the podium, 3 h 40'10' back, followed by Sebastian Husseini.
19:24 Quads: Finish 2: Van Biljon takes the last one
South African Sarel Van Biljon won the last special of the 2013 Dakar, beating Sebastian Husseini by 37', Marcos Patronelli by 1'18', Lukasz Laskawiec by 1'19', Ignacio Casale by 1'29' and Lucas Bonetto by 1'33'.

14:56 Quads: Km 41: Laskawiec out for revenge
