23:39 : A provisional one-two for De Rooy's Ivecos!
Dutchman Hans Stacey has just posted the second best time in today's special, 16 seconds behind teammate Gerard de Rooy. The team can almost taste its first one-two in the 2013 Dakar
23:25 : More on the Motorcycle and Quad classifications
A 5x coefficient is applied to today's results in the motorcycle category. Thus, there's just over a minute between general classification leader Francisco López and fifth-placed Cyril Despres, while a mere 1′15″ separates the Top 3 in the Quad category, with Flores Seminario in the lead ahead of Husseini and Patronelli.
23:19 Cars: More on the Car classification
A x3 coefficient is applied to the times of the opening special. This means that, although the order of the general classification is the same as that of the stage classification, the time gaps are quite different. Therefore: Carlos Sainz has a margin of 24 seconds over Lucio Álvarez, 30 seconds over Guerlain Chicherit and Nasser Al-Attiyah, and 36 seconds over Ronan Chabot. On the other hand, Robby Gordon's mishaps have cost him no less than 31′45″.
21:56 Cars: Gordon zero, Sainz hero
The Spaniard seems to have wrapped up his win, whereas Robby Gordon managed to get his car going again and finished the special 10′35″ down. Sainz took the lead both in the stage and in the general classification, ahead of Lucio Álvarez (+8″), Guerlain Chicherit and Nasser Al-Attiyah (both +10″). Ronan Chabot showed the strength of Team SMG by finishing fifth, 22″ ahead of Krzysztof Hołowczyc, who clocked the same time (+34″) as Leonid Novitskiy and Stéphane Peterhansel. Giniel de Villiers (+35″) and Nani Roma (+37″) also finished in the Top 10. Régis Delahaye and Pascal Tomasse drove their MD Rallye buggies to eleventh and twelfth, respectively.
21:01 Cars: Gordon grinds to a halt!
Roughly four kilometres into today's special, the American's GPS position has remained static for more than five minutes. What could it be?
20:57 Cars: Things are getting hectic behind Sainz
The Spaniard's time is proving pretty hard to beat. Argentina's Lucio Álvarez lies second, eight seconds down on the Qatar Red Bull Rally Team driver. Third-placed Al-Attiyah is tied on time with Guerlain Chicherit (Buggy SMG). We're now waiting for Robby Gordon, Christian Lavieille and Eric Vigouroux to finish.
20:34 Cars: Sainz, first leader in the car category
The Spaniard has moved into the lead after completing the 13 km opening special in a time of 7′40″, which was enough to beat his teammate Nasser Al-Attiyah (+10″), Stéphane Peterhansel (+34″) and Giniel de Villiers (+35″). It goes without saying that the situation is still in a state of flux and could change any minute.
20:23 Cars: The cars roar into the special
Nasser Al-Attiyah and his car (Buggy no. 300) are the first to tackle today's special, which is only 13 kilometres long. They'll be followed by Giniel de Villiers with his Toyota and 2012 champion Stéphane Peterhansel with his Mini. Next up will be Nani Roma (Mini) and Carlos Sainz (Buggy), the other driver of the Qatar Red Bull Rally team.

19:15 Bikes: First references in the motorcycle category
Chile's Pablo Quintanilla holds the provisional best time now that twenty motorcycles have crossed the finish line. It took him and his Honda CRF 450 7′56″ to complete the 13 km course.
19:02 Bikes: It's motorcycle time!
The highest numbers in the motorcycle category have entered the special, starting with Spain's Julián Villarrubia (196). The honour should have gone to Chile's César Zumarán, but he stopped in the last kilometre of the link section for some as yet unknown reason.

20:18 Quads: Artzert makes it to the finish
The driver from Guadeloupe, Jean-Karl Artzert, has been towed to the end of the special by another contender. It took him 1 h 07′42″ to complete the course, but now he'll be able to deal with his engine problems in the bivouac, not far from the finish line, in the hope of being able to start the second stage. Artzert's in for a long night and, perhaps, an engine change.
19:42 Quads: Flores Seminario keeps the best time
With a time of 9′22″, the Peruvian driver and his Yamaha Raptor 700R have won the first special of the 2013 edition, much to the delight of the home crowd. He took first place in the stage, and therefore in the general classification, where he now commands an 11-second lead over the Netherlands' Sebastian Husseini (265). Marcos Patronelli came in third, 15″ down on the best time, followed by Ignacio Casale (+20″), Kees Koolen (+39″), Tomás Maffei (+40″), Alexis Hernández (+42″), Rafał Sonik (+43'), Sebastián Palma (+49) and Gaston Gonzales (+52″), who rounded off the Top 10.
19:17 Quads: First upset among the quads
No. 275, Jean-Karl Atzert, has come to a stop in the last third of the 13 km special and seems to have been hit by serious engine problems. The driver from Guadeloupe is trying to repair his vehicle and make it to the finish.
18:49 Quads: First reference in the quad category
Peru's Ignacio Flores Seminario and his Yamaha Raptor quad have just posted a provisional best time of 9′22″. The first 20 drivers in this category have already finished the opening special of the 2013 Dakar.
23:47 Trucks: More on the Truck classification
A x3 coefficient is applied to the times of the opening special. This means that, although the order of the general classification is the same as that of the stage classification, the time gaps are somewhat different. Therefore, the leading duo, Gerard de Rooy and Hans Stacey, are separated by 48 seconds, with Loprais' Tatra 1’15' down on the leader and fourth-placed Marcel van Vliet a further 24' back. The Top 10 drivers are all packed within 3’15'. Nothing to lose sleep over at this point in the race
