4 years after winning his 1st stage victory on the Dakar, during the last special on the 2007 edition, Czech driver Alès Loprais (Tatra) got the winning feeling back on this 6th special of the Dakar 2011. Taking full advantage of the problems encountered by the two leading drivers on the Kamaz team, the son of the mythical Karel, finally completed the day’s 423 timed kilometres 5’55 ahead of Russian Firdaus Kabirov (Kamaz)and 9’39 in front of Russian Vladimir Chagin (Kamaz). Loprais’s success brings to a close the series of 24 consecutive stage victories for Kamaz on the Dakar.In the general standings, Kabirov is still comfortably in the lead, 19’20 ahead of his team leader Chagin, and 21’25 in front of Alès Loprais.

Having spent most of this 6th special in the lead, Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel has just completed the stage, 12’25 behind the day’s winner, Spaniard Carlos Sainz (VW). This major loss of time was cause by 4 successive punctures in the last 100 kilometres of the special. As a result, in the general standings, the man from Vésoul is now 14’51 behind the leader, Sainz, and 12’09 behind the provisional 2nd placed driver, Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (VW).

The quickest competitor over the start of the special, Russian Vladimir Chagin (Kamaz) has eased up a little bit and now lies in provisional 3rd place, 2’52 behind Kabirov.

However, the two men have slightly distance the 3rd placed driver, the leader of the general standings, Spaniard Carlos Sainz (VW), who is now 1’23 behind “Peter”.

The winner of the 1st special of this 33rd Dakar, until he was given a one minute penalty, Portuguese rider Ruben Faria (KTM) has had to wait 5 stages before repeating this feat.Indeed, now that the first 5 bikes have finished the day’s special, Despres’s discrete water carrier has triumphed and picks up the 4th stage victory of his career on the Dakar.
